When do online stores have to collect sales tax in other states?
No nexus in a state, no tax on deliveries there. Tax follows the customer—a Texas warehouse shipping to Florida does not charge Texas tax. Economic thresholds ($100k or 200 orders in ~40 states plus DC) apply only without physical presence; a shop or warehouse-only facility creates immediate nexus for in-state orders. Five states set higher bars; Connecticut needs both $100k and 200 orders. Tax software at checkout tracks it.
